Chocolate Pekins - No Longer Stock
We kept our lovely Chocolate Pekins from 2012 to 2015. Originally we bought a trio and added to this, changed cockerels, bred our own stock, to keep things mixed in terms of genetics. We ran Marvin Jr. with three hens, which all made great broodies. When we get a broody hen, which with keeping so many fluffy breeds, is quite often, we allow them to rear chicks, or foster chicks onto them if they are a seasoned pro at rearing!!!
We have a few pictures of them rearing their chicks in the garden, a few of which have been uploaded. They make wonderful mums and the chicks can often be seen riding along on their backs, getting a piggy-back from their mum through the flower beds. The mums have reared a number of chicks, including some of their own kind, but predominantly Isabelle and Lavender Mille fleur, with the odd Speckled Sussex, Lavender Cuckoo or Lemon Cuckoo for good measure.
